Signs of Future Inventors:
Orville and Wilbur Wright began their journey as inventors at a young age. Wilbur Wright was born in Millville, Indiana in 1867. Orville Wright was born four years later after the Wright family moved to Dayton, Ohio in 1871(Freedman, 1991). The Brothers were inseparable and began working together to solve mechanical problems as early as age 7 (Orville) and 12 (Wilber). Proof of their destiny to become inventor’s lies within their childhood memory, both brothers can recall their favorite toy as boys, a rubber band helicopter (Freedman, 1991). The Brothers were fascinated by the helicopters ability to hover in the air. They played with the toy until it eventually fell apart. Orville recalled building a number of copies with his brother that flew successfully (Freedman, 1991). They even attempted to build a much larger scale replica, but were unsuccessful inflight. However, this would not be the Wright brother’s last experiment with aeronautics.
The Wright Brothers fell in love with the art of flight before they were old enough to even realize it. They’re fascination with their helicopter brought on their ability to engineer its replicas. The Brother’s showed promise as future inventors as they became more intrigued with aeronautics.
