Not an Ideal Location:
The Wright Brothers continued to study the infinite science of aeronautics. Wilbur took on the role as leader in the early stages of the brother’s work. Orville soon followed his brother and together they collaborated their own theories to reach the goal of human flight. They began working towards this goal by designing their own 5-foot biplane kite (Kirk, 1995). The Wright Brothers were close to refining the solution for lift and propulsion. However, the Brothers wanted to achieve lateral control, where the control depended on the pilot. Sparked by his observation of birds, Wilbur decided to work with the idea of warping the wings. The Brothers tested this idea with their biplane kite. Although, they experienced some success the brothers soon realized the weather conditions in Dayton, Ohio were not ideal for flight experimentation. Wilbur wrote the National Weather Bureau in Washington, D.C. requesting information on areas along the east coast where there were constant winds to suit the brother’s flight experimenting needs.
The Wright Brothers soon began developing their own ideas to sustain controlled flight. They began working on experimental kites to test their theories. However, the Brothers soon realized that the weather conditions in Ohio were not ideal for their experiments. The Wright Brothers needed steady winds for their flight experiments and searched for a location on east coast.
